Welcome to Property Tax Talk!

Property tax, also known as real estate tax, is something that every property owner has to contend with.  Quite frankly, they are a necessity.  Local government rely on the revenue to operate various important services such as police, fire and medical services as well as other local responsibilities.  In addition, a significant portion of the funds are utilized to educate our children.  Lastly, in most cases, the balance is contributed to the upper level government (county) to fund various county-wide programs.

It is important that property be properly assessed to insure the most fair and equitable distribution of the tax burden among all taxpayers throughout their local government.

Recently property values nation-wide have skyrocketed at an unprecedented rate.  While many feel that the upward trend is going to level-off, few believe values will fall.  This has caused local governments to take a second look at property value assessments.  In many cases property owners are seeing their assessments double, and at times even triple.  At times this can mean significantly higher tax bills, and other times it may not significantly change your tax bill.
